The initial assessment will take up one hour, to give us the opportunity to listen to your area of complaint/symptoms and to gain an understanding of the impact it is having on your health, wellbeing or performance. A thorough history of your symptoms or injury will be taken along with any related past injury or trauma. This will be followed by a functional examination looking at posture, movement patterns, biomechanics and any compensatory patterns of movement.
A thorough clinical examination will then take place of the area of concern. In the case of a sporting injury some sport-specific testing may also take place, to examine patterns of movement, so appropriate footwear may be necessary for the testing process.
The assessment findings will be discussed with you, with a diagnosis and a treatment plan. The opportunity to ask questions and learn about how to manage your symptoms will also be discussed in your first visit.
To accurately examine the area of concern you will be asked to bring:
Any review or follow up treatment appointment will be discussed with you at the initial assessment and very much depends on the assessment findings of your area of complaint/symptoms and your personal goals.
An appropriate treatment plan will also be discussed with you based on your personal goals.
A review/follow up appointments are 45min long. They will be predominately treatment time, with rehab, education and review of your exercise programme.
The number of review appointments will very much depend on how you have responded to your initial assessment, initial treatment and the length of time you’ve had your symptoms/complaint. Some clients only need the initial appointment to gain some advice on their area of concern, and are content to work on their own exercise programme and self management. Others may need two or more to gain joint mobility, some motor control changes and strength gains. Some clients keen to return to function/Sport may need a number of treatment appointments and rehab sessions.
There is no need for a GP or Consultant referral. However if you wish, we will send your GP or consultant a medical report of the assessment, treatment plan and your progress.
We do collaborate closely with sport physicians and orthopaedic surgeons, in addition to making direct referrals for MRI, Ultrasound diagnostic testing or shockwave therapy
Treatments will include any of the following depending on your individual needs and treatment goals:
