Explore the process in which we take our patients outlining the treatments and services we provide along with the benefits of these. All helping you to achieve your end goal of getting back to the activity you love.
Your journey will always begin with the initial consultation:
Using experience gained from working in Sport and Exercise medicine and the latest technology and expert advice in a whole host of different treatment options to support you all the way through your journey, back to activity, fitness or even competition.
INITIAL CONSULTATION (First Visit)
Your initial consultation will always take an hour, this gives us the opportunity to listen to the history of your symptoms and any related past injury, trauma or operations that maybe related directly or indirectly to your current complaint/symptoms. A thorough assessment will also help shape the clinical examination in order to reach the correct diagnosis and execute treatment straight away.
Functional examination will then follow looking at posture, movement patterns, biomechanics in standing, walking, and examining for any compensatory patterns of movement and dysfunction.
A thorough clinical examination of the area of complaint/symptoms with a series of clinical tests will be carried out. Assessing range of motion, stability, motor control, strength deficits, neurodynamics and associated tests that we may feel are relevant to your symptoms or area of complaint.
In the sporting client some sport specific testing may also take place if appropriate. Assessing movement patterns functionally as in jogging, running, cutting, acceleration or deceleration and change of direction. This is to determine the ability to handle load.
All examination and assessment findings will be discussed with you. We will work together with you to plan your management and treatment, which will be based on your symptoms and personal goals.
Some clients only need the initial consultation appointment to gain a diagnosis, some advice and a management plan with an exercise programme to work on. If they are content, they can work on their own programme and self management.
Other clients may need two or more appointments to gain joint mobility, some motor control changes and strength gains. Another group of clients recovering from orthopaedic surgery or a sport injury keen to return to function and activity or their sport, may need a number of treatment appointments or rehabilitation sessions.
The number of review appointments will very much depend on how you have responded to your initial consultation treatment and also the length of time you’ve experienced your symptoms.
All treatment plans will be discussed with you, with opportunity to ask questions and learn about the diagnosis and self management. We will support you through this journey of recovery and rehab whether you attend for only a few appointments or for a longer management plan.
